Okanagan Street Wetland Project: Update April 2024

Our wetland enhancement project in downtown Armstrong is on track to be completed by the end of 2025.  We have received one of the two necessary provincial permits applied for last year – the Amphibian Salvage permit was granted this January, and we are currently waiting for a  Change Approval permit issued under the Water Sustainability Act (Section 11).  We are therefore optimistic that we will be able to adhere to our winter 2024 plans for pond excavation, with boardwalk and platform construction to follow in 2025.  The planting of native trees, shrubs and grasses will take place in early 2025 and involve local volunteers and the participation of the BC Wildlife Federation.

Our progress to date – and our ability to plan ahead with confidence is all due to the financial and resource support this project has received from a number of provincial and regional organizations. Thanks to the City of Armstrong, the B. C. Wildlife Federation, the Okanagan Basin Water Board, the Regional District of the North Okanagan, and the Armstrong Regional Co-op.  In addition, support from local organizations and businesses has contributed greatly to the advancement of the project. Thanks also to Hill Environmental Ltd., the Asparagus Theatre, and Tapestry Choir.
